Life Membership for Phyllis Kerr

On 13th December 2010, at the Pie Creek Hall Christmas BBQ function, Phyllis Kerr was awarded Life Membership in appreciation of her dedicated service for fourteen years to the Pie Creek Community Hall.

In 1996, Mr David Anderson, Cooloola Shire Councillor and local resident, called on residents of the Pie Creek area, to see how much interest there would be to restore the Pie Creek Hall. The hall, which was in a bad state of repair, had been in the Council’s control for twenty-five years.

Phyllis, being a resident and remembering her young days and many happy times attending dances in the hall, was only too keen to get residents together. A meeting was called and with a good attendance, a committee was formed. With a keen team at the helm, Phyllis was nominated as the Convenor Caretaker.

As work began and the building began taking on a new look, Phyllis and a band of ladies catered for many functions to raise money for buying tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery and other items essential for the hiring of the hall.

During the restoration, Phyllis saw many changes with the fence being erected and the beautiful gardens being established. In 2003, she helped organise the Centenary, which was a huge success. Since the restoration, the Hall has been used extensively for weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, meetings, BBQs and many other functions.

For twelve years, Phyllis attended to all enquiries, bookings, cleaned, mowed and kept the gardens immaculate. She has met many people through the bookings of functions and is still friends with many today.

Due to ill health, Phyllis and Pat sold their property and moved to the Southside. Phyllis is still an active member of the Committee. She has held various positions on the Committee and has volunteered for the Community Hall for fourteen years.
